IC:
Character name: Jiro Sakana
Fandom: Sakana
Timeline: The morning after drunken escapades (more in background, end of Chapter 8)
Age: 22
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Jiro has absolutely no abilities whatsoever. He's pretty much just your average 22 year old male human. The only thing he's fairly talented in is running. He's extremely fast and has a high stamina built up from a lifetime of  jogging.
How would they use their abilities?: To run away from the things that scare him (read: girls, aliens, monsters, etc)
Appearance: Jiro is 5'8", 145lb male, who is lean but otherwise not too muscular. He has brown eyes and black hair that is styled upward in the front, resembling a large fin, with the back tied up in a mini-ponytail. It goes pretty much all over the place when it's disheveled. His clothing style usually stays within the range of casual shirts with jeans and sneakers.

Personality:
Jiro is a rather modest man on the outside. He always tries to see the best in people and is unassuming as can be. He's not the smartest, or the strongest, or particularly talented in any field but he's a very hard worker who doesn't give up on the tasks given to him. Despite what he likes to think, Jiro tends to be dependent on others. After his parents died, he leaned on his brother, Taro, and after his brother left, he leaned on his best friend, Taisei. Because of his friendly and open tendencies, he's pretty good at making friends and tries to make them feel included, even if those people would rather just be left alone. Despite the bad things that happened in his life, he always tries to stand up and be a better person because of it.

However, it's not like there weren't lasting effects. Underneath this trying, positive exoskeleton lies an extremely nervous, neurotic being that is constantly worrying about the world around him. He tries to keep this as grounded as possible, through his friends, family, and work. Despite this, there are still instances when it comes out, mostly around girls. Because of the childhood trauma caused by his female peers, Jiro was left with a deathly fear of women. When in the presence of women, it can cause sweating, stuttering, running away, nausea, vomiting, passing out, or blackouts where Jiro is in no control of the things he does. There are certain types of women that this happens more to, particularly young women, "cute" girls, and girls that have their lives together. The worst are little girls, to which he'll promptly run away. Older women he has better control of himself around. This is an issue that he has been working on getting over and would probably be on a successful (and painfully long) road to recovery, if not for the destruction of the Earth. With the supposed death of not only his girlfriend, but his friends, family, and everyone he cared about, it might be a teensy bit harder for him to hold back the gigantic mound of stress rolled up in this tiny, pitiful, Earthling.

Background:
Sakana is a romantic-comedy, slice-of-life webcomic following the escapades of Jiro and Taro Sakana, as well as their friends and family. The first few paragraphs are going to be a mixture of headcanon and background knowledge given by Sakana's creator, Madeline Rupert because she's a super bro.

Jiro was born in Tokyo, the son of two loving parents and younger brother of Taro, four years his elder. His childhood was fairly normal up until being entered into preschool. There, he was met with his first instance of childhood trauma, Chie Yamamoto. Jiro was playing out at recess when a friend came over and told him that Chie had declared him her boyfriend. Unsure of what it took to be a boyfriend, he went over to Chie and asked what he had to do. She told him to close his eyes and then promptly punched him in the face. Thus began the preschool from hell for Jiro. Chie punched, kicked, bit, slapped, poured paint on, locked in the janitors closet, and systematically tormented him all while calling him her boyfriend. This spawned his deathly fear of girls, to which he still has not recovered.

Jiro did not finish that year of preschool. His parents got into a terrible car accident that resulted in their deaths and both Taro and Jiro were sent to go live with their Uncle Ren, Aunt Yumiko and cousin Genji, who lived in another area of Tokyo. Ren transferred them to a private school and took care of the boys like they were his own. Jiro had a rough time adjusting to his parents deaths though not as hard as his brother, who acted out and eventually joined a gang. Jiro's time growing up in this new environment was made a lot easier when he met Taisei Tachibana, a tall, naive, goofy kid who was book-smart but not-so-smart in everything else. They became fast friends and supported each other throughout the years, going on friend-ventures and being there when no one else was. This made itself most apparent when Taro turned 18 and just left, without warning and without goodbye. Jiro worried incessantly about his brother, but had no idea where to look or what had caused him to leave in the first place. As a result, he grew even closer to Taisei for emotional support.

When Jiro himself turned 18 four years later, Taro returned, ready to start changing his fuck up ways. Jiro was angry and upset by what happened but ultimately he was just happy that his brother was alive and apart of his life again. He quickly forgave him but remained wary and less dependent on him. Jiro chose not to go to college, unlike Taisei, who went abroad to study in a fancy business school in America. It was upsetting to let go of him but ultimately they kept their friendship alive through letters and frequent phone calls. Jiro instead opted to take on odd jobs for a year before settling with a position as a clerk at his Uncle's fish market, while Taro had been made a butcher the year before. All was fine for about a year when Jiro noticed a girl who works across the market place. He took one look at her and then passed out, subsequently being run over by the stock cart (don't worry, he doesn't remember it). After that, it was true love. He watched who he deemed Cash Register Girl from afar, but his fear of girls and "terrible timing" (read: excuses) always prevented him from talking to her. A year after this crush began, Taisei returned home from business school and moved into the apartment with Taro and Jiro, bringing with him a bunch of fancy furniture from his parent's house and most of the rent.

A year after that, and the plot of Sakana begins. Jiro finally manages to gain the courage to talk to the Cash Register Girl (now CRG for efficiency) and despite his nervous failure, she still gives him her number. He has Taro call her because he's too nervous to but hey, baby steps right? The next morning, Jiro is woken up abruptly by a hungover Taisei sitting on him and they chat about the date. Taisei is more than a little heartbroken that Jiro is ditching their usual Saturday adventures to go on this date and is also extremely concerned that Jiro's fears are going to get him in trouble. Jiro reassures him that he'll be perfectly fine (it's not a date, it's an interest meeting)...but you know just in case, he'll go on a walk to mentally prepare himself.

After his walk (and a rather unsuccessful attempt at stalking a lovey-dovey couple to learn how a "good date" is supposed to go) Jiro makes his way over to Harajuku for the date. His anxiety builds and he wonders where this fear even originated in the first place. After thumbing through several awful events, he realizes that it all started with Chie Yamamoto, a memory that he had repressed. Just then, CRG finds him, snapping him out of his memory, causing him to black out, throw up, and say "I'm going to take you on the best lunch you've ever had" before leading her off. His consciousness returns to him as they're walking and CRG fills him in on all that had happened. Jiro begins to panic, not only because he's with this girl but now he has to find somewhere cheap to go in this unfamiliar area of the city. As luck would have it, they spot a Cheapies, a donut shop. Jiro blacks out again, this time buying more donuts than anyone would ever need or could afford but hey, CRG was happy for it.

The "interest meeting" goes along nicely and Jiro manages to keep his cool for the most part. That is, until he reveals to her that he was scared of her. It's a lighthearted gesture, but one that sends her into a fit of sobbing, much to Jiro's shock and anguish. He tries to comfort her, reassuring her that he had a really great time and is really happy that they did this together. She pulls him into a hug and apologizes profusely for all the harm she's caused to him ever since they met in preschool. Jiro puts two and two together and realizes that Cash Register Girl is Chie Yamamoto. He kind of goes into a full out panic attack, knocking over a giant donut and nearly getting himself killed. This reveals that Taro, Taisei, and Yuudai (Jiro's oh-so-pleasant co-worker who totally tagged along to support Jiro and definitely not laugh when Jiro failed miserably), as well as Chie's sister Mori were stalking this date. While everyone breaks out into arguments and yelling, Jiro pulls aside Chie and asks if they can have somewhere more private to chat. He apologizes for his friend's behavior, while she apologizes for her sister's, plus all the terrible things she did when she was little, especially for making him leave preschool. Jiro remarks that he had no idea who she really was and that she wasn't the reason he left. They share life stories, it's all really great, Jiro asks her to be his girlfriend (which he doesn't remember, another blackout) and then throws up again. Baby steps.

Jiro returns to his friends to tell them the news. Yuudai could care less, Taro doesn't approve of the idea of Jiro dating someone who made his life hell and Taisei is ecstatic. He proposes that they all go out drinking to celebrate. They even bring along crabby Yuudai. Everyone has way too much to drink and they all pass out at Jiro's place. The world ending isn't exactly a pleasant thing to wake up to, especially when you have a hangover.

Have you read up on how the game works?:
The plug-in is called FlamingFerret and people can earn their wages through taking on jobs, doing freelance work or mooching off of others.

1st person sample:

[The screen of the Guide whirs to life, revealing the confused and highly concerned look of a pale faced man. He glances at the Guide, seemingly unaware that he turned it on, and then back to the unseen person at the other side of the desk]
"I-I don't-- I don't need this! Or this towel, or whatever the hell you put in my ear-- can you please just tell me where I am?!"
[His eyes widen and expression contorts with disbelief]
"Space?"
[He must be more hungover than he thought. Everything of the previous night blurred in his head but he figured these new circumstances made it all pretty irrelevant. His skepticism slowly began to fade as the situation was explained to him (in the most unhelpful terms ever, mind you), instead being replaced by fear]
"Refugee? From what?! How do I get back?"
[His shaking hands balled into fists]
"What do you mean there's no going back? What-- Earth is gone?! How, what happened?! Not your department, well, where do I ask?! And what happened to everyone else?"
[He completely freezes at the answer, losing all color in his face. His voice turns weak]
"Dead...?"
[After a few moments of shocked silence, he reaches out with shaky hands to take the towel and the Guide. The screen turns black]

3rd person sample:

Jiro dragged his feet down the hall, eyes empty and unfocused. He mindlessly shuffled past the other inhabitants bustling through the lowest sector (or more accurately, they pushed him out of their way and he didn't fight it). This was a lot to take in one day. Everything he ever knew and loved was gone and he was just expected to start over. You should be grateful that you survived the whole thing, he had heard one refugee sneer to the person panicking ahead of him in line.

His eyes dropped down to the Guide, reading the words "DON'T PANIC" on the cover. Shaky fingers glossed over the lettering. Right, don't panic. Don't panic, he told his spiking heart rate, and his quivering limbs, and the sweat forming on his brow, and the overwhelming sensation of passing out that overtook him as he rounded every corner to see some new and even more fantastical alien species. Putting aside the fact that he was in a completely new environment that he never thought possible, he only had to deal with the fact that he may or may not be the lone survivor of his race, while everyone he ever loved and cared about died horribly in some sort of Earthly decimation, yet for some reason he of all people managed to escape. Nothing to panic about, right?

He shut his eyes tight and rubbed his temple, trying to quell the hangover also pounding against his brain. This all might be a little easier to deal with if he could y'know, remember his last night on Earth. Unfortunately, the snippets that he could remember were just him and his friends acting like complete idiots. Some way to go.
He stopped in front of a door, reading the same number they had given him after endless amounts of paperwork. His room. He took a deep breath. He could do this. If they could save a little nobody like him, why wouldn't they save anyone else, right? He would look around, ask around, take on some work (it's not like Jiro wasn't used to odd jobs) and surely he'd be able to find someone. Or everyone!

Or no one. The thought haunted him as the door swung open with a pleasant sigh (something that Jiro concluded came from his delusional head) and walked into the tiny room. He headed straight for the Western style bed pushed up against the wall and fell on top of it heavily, letting the Guide fall to the side of him and burying his face in the towel. Positive thinking could only get you so far and it wasn't going to bring back the Earth. Every time something terrible had happened in his life, he always had something, or someone to lean on. To help him cope and move on. Right now, he had nothing but this towel. Coincidentally, the towel is one of the most massively useful items in the universe, with many uses such as muffling sobs and soaking up tears. And it would be put to very good use for the next hour. Or three.
